Wow, Another Week Just Like Before!
I come in this morning and I have a file server that went from 50 gb free to 0 free overnight...crashing like crazy...who started shoving machine backups on their home drive?!?!

A SQL server throwing up 'torn pages'...what are torn pages? I don't know. Research time.

Two buildings without network connections (can you say, lightning strike?)

And the usual onslaught of Monday morning user 'emergencies'. I'm ready to get out the Perspective Bat and start whacking some heads.

Much happened this weekend. Saw my niece in her school play, yay. Saw my mom's new house which is almost finished. The front door she ordered hasn't come in, and they havn't finished some grout work in the bathroom. But it's GORGEOUS. Tons of closet and storage space, giant master bathroom, huge living room, huge kitchen...it's bizarre, because it's only 1400 ft2 but it looks like half again that. They just came up with an excellent layout.

Alert knitting & crochet people:

You know I've only been knitting a short time, but I've been crocheting just about forever. That's because my entire maternal line crocheted, except my mother and grandmother. Well, I was going through my stash -- not all of it is yarn, much is "what now" things -- and found something I'd forgotten about.

Someone in my family has crocheted many dozens of spiral doilies and a large amount of lace edging out of very fine white thread. We still have some spools with the labels on; I want to see if I can find out approximately when they were purchased so I can figure out how old this stuff is. It's a minimum 50 years, and probably closer to twice that! Alas, no store labels.

But, here's the thing: Gramma had stuffed them in the back of a closet in her house and that's where they lived. They're a little bit brittle now, and they have some rust colored stains on a lot of the pieces. I have no idea how to get that out without ruining the fabric. Obviously I'm not going to toss them in a bleach wash, at least not without expert advice.

I'm fairly sure the thread is pure cotton, but once again, that's not on the label. But it feels like cotton.

Any ideas?
